Puducherry

Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) is a Union Territory of India. It is a former French colony, consisting of four small unconnected districts: Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam on the Bay of Bengal and Mahe on the Arabian Sea


A tiny town on the eastern coast of India, Pondicherry is a beachcombers delight. Though more famous for its French connection , Pondicherry has some of the country's most spectacular beaches and endearing backwaters.

The sparkling sandy beaches are absolutely isolated and one can enjoy endless miles of beautiful blue waters in solitude. The backwaters offer interesting river cruises.

Serenity Beach
Located to the north of the town, the calm waters of Serenity Beach are ideal for swimmers.

Plage Paradiso (Paradise Beach)
A short distance from Serenity Beach, just outside Pondicherry, is Paradise Beach. Since this quiet beach has a creek on one side, you get the best of both worlds - the rolling, crashing sea on one side, and the serene backwaters of the creek on the other. You can sail through the backwaters.

Karaikal Beach
This is where the Arasalar River merges into the sea. one can canoe or kayak in picture-book surroundings or perhaps have a round of beach volleyball. 22-km south of Kannur, on the northern strip of coastal Kerala lies this beach strip. From Calicut (Kozikode), one will find this 75-km north of the town, bordered by numerous palm trees and delightful little fishing hamlets.

Mahe Beach
This picture-perfect beach lies on the border that Pondicherry shares with Kerala. Just enjoy the with tall palms and enchanting fishing hamlets.

Enjoy a river cruise on the Goringa Godavari River as it winds through rich mangrove forests.

Getting There

The nearest airport is at Chennai, which is 160 kms. away. Pondicherry has direct rail connections with Chennai and is connected to the major towns and cities of different states by good roads. There are Interstate bus services from Chennai to Pondicherry. Private buses are available for tours.

Ports : Accessible to major ports like Chennai, Tuticorin, Cochin and Vishakapatnam.
