Location
Seychelles, comprising about 115 islands, is located on the

History
Originally named as 'Seven Sisters', Seychelles was a lonely
planet for long, waiting for inhibitors. Some also believe that
the Portuguese and Arabs may have visited Seychelles earlier.
The British started their operations in the Indian Ocean and
used Seychelles as their base. The governor of Mauritius sent
a team to look for the islands. The French claimed the islands
12 years later. They started growing all kinds of spices, cassava,
sugar cane, coffee and vegetables like sweet potatoes and maize.
In between, the British came and a little tussle for Seychelles
between French and British began. Soon the British took over
and brought with them slaves and political prisoners. Though
they could not overrule French language and culture. Seychelles
declared independence in 1976, being declared the Republic of
Seychelles.

When to go
The Seychelles' weather is set by the mood of the south-east
trade winds, which usually blow from May to October. For the
rest of the year, the islands are swept by the monsoons, especially
in January. Mahe and Silhouette get the most rain. January is
the wettest month, while July and August the driest. You should
plan your tailormade trip to Seychelles according to what you
want to do. Windsurfing and sailing are best at the start and
end of the trade winds, whereas diving is best in March, April,
May, September, October and November. Some beaches are better
during the monsoon season, others during the trade winds.
