Few countries in the world offer as many choices to the world
traveller as Canada. Whether your passion is skiing, sailing,
museum-combing or indulging in exceptional cuisine, Canada has
it all. Western Canada is renowned for its stunningly beautiful
countryside, while Eastern Canada mixes the flavor and charm
of Europe with the bustle of trendy New York. In Northern Canada,
planes or all-terrain vehicles are someTimes the most common
forms of transport and wildlife viewing is at its best. Whatever
your passion, Canada has a place for it.
Those expecting Canada to be a blander version of the USA should
check their assumptions at the door. Canada's wild northern
frontier, which has etched itself into the national psyche,
and its distinct patchwork of peoples have created a country
that is decidedly different from its brash neighbour.
It's the edginess between Canada's indigenous, French and British
traditions that gives the nation its complex three-dimensional
character. Add to this a constant infusion of US culture and
a plethora of traditions brought by migrants, and you have a
thriving multicultural society.

Major Attaractions in Canada
Toronto : Although the famous
Niagara Falls are nearby, Toronto isn't a city with a checklist
full of attractions. But its summer festivals, the spicy corners
of its markets, the beachfront boardwalks and the music pouring
out of its neighbourhood eateries will slowly and surely seduce
you. This is Canada's business capital and largest city, a clean,
safe and vibrant metropolis where real estate prices are high
and blood pressure levels are low. A centre for Anglo-Canadian
culture, it's also one of the great ethnic melting pots of the
world.
Vancouver : There aren't many
cities in the world that offer Vancouver's combination of big-city
lifestyle and outdoor fun in such cheek-by-jowl proximity. Ski
in the morning, sail in the afternoon and still make it back
to town in Time for a cocktail or three. Vancouver is still
a city of new immigrants - wander the streets and you'll hear
a dozen different languages. The city also attracts young professionals
and artists from the eastern provinces who come here to enjoy
its recreation and laid-back sophistication.
Ontario : Ontario is Canada's
most populous Province, and denotes this through the sheer size
and energy of its two cities (one the Federal capital, the other
the Provincial capital), Ottawa and Toronto. Toronto, in particular,
is widely regarded as one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan
cities on the continent, in part due to its huge influx of immigrants.
The city heaves with galleries, museums and shops, all against
the backdrop of both heritage buildings (such as the Old City
Hall, built in 1899) and innovative modern architecture (such
as the CN Tower, arguably the world's tallest building). Ontario
is also a Province of water, containing four of the five 'Great
Lakes' of North America. There is also Niagara Falls for those
who crave their watery landscapes a little more dramatic; partly
lodged in Ontario (and partly in New York State, USA), the Falls
provide a snapshot of Nature at its most phenomenal.
Halifax : Perched on one of the
world's largest natural harbours, fog-bound Halifax has gone
from old-salt port to deluxe destination, with its historic
areas gussied up into sleek tourist precincts. More and more
travellers are setting course for Nova Scotia's capital.
Montreal : Montreal's charm lies
in its old world atmosphere rather than its star attractions.
Nonetheless, this city of immigrants has managed to carve out
a place for itself as Quebec's economic and cultural centre.
That it's friendly and easy to get around helps. Quebec's largest
city keeps one foot in the past and one in the present, with
19th-century churches nestled in the shadows of soaring modern
skyscrapers. During the day, the city has a typically North
American bustle - while French-speaking Montreal takes pains
to retain its linguistic heritage.
Quebec : Quebec City is the rather
European-flavoured capital of Quebec province. The city is divided
between an Old Town bristling with historic ramparts, churches,
narrow lanes and former battlefields, and districts revamped
with museums, cafes, bars, restaurants and all the other mod-cons
of international tourism.
