Uttarakhand, known as Uttaranchal from 2000 to 2006, became
the 27th state of the Republic of India on November 9, 2000.
Uttarakhand borders Tibet to the north, Nepal to the east, and
the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (of which it
formed a part before 2000) in the west and south respectively.
The land of Celestial Beauty "Uttarakhand" is blessed
with magnificent glaciers, majestic snow-clad mountains, gigantic

Dehradun
Nestled
in the mountain ranges of the Himalaya, Dehradun is one of the
oldest cities of India and currently capital of new born state
Uttranchal. Also known as the "Abode of Drona", Dehradun
has always been an important center of the Garhwal rules which
was captured by the British.
Pauri
Pauri provides a panoramic view of the snow clad Himalayas peak
of Bandar Poonch, Swarga Rohini, Jonli, Gangotri Group, Jogin
Group Thalaiya - Sagar, Kedarnath, Kharcha Kund, Sumeru, Satopanth,
Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, Ghauriparvat, Hathiparvat, Nanda Devi
and Trisul.
Mussoorie
Mussoorie
with its green hills and varied Flora and Fauna, is a fascinating
hill resort. Commanding a wonderful view of extensive Himalaya
snow ranges to the northeast, and glittering views of the Doon
Valley, Roorki, Saharabpur and Haridwar to the south, the town
presents a fairy land atmosphere to the tourists. It is also
a "Gateway" to Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines.
Rishikesh
Rishikesh also known as the 'Place of Sages' is a spiritual
town situated 24 kms. upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence
of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga, It is believed that God by the
name of 'Hrishikesh' had apeared as an answer to the hard penances
by Rabhiya Rishi and henceforth the place derived its name
Nainital
The
Nainital tourist district is the pride of the Kumaon region
in himalayas Uttarakhand. While there are many other places
equally beautiful, Nainital is certainly the most popular tourist
destination in Kumaon. It's a pleasant himalayas hill station.
For tourists looking for hustle and bustle the best time to
go is the summer months when a lot of traffic ascends from Delhi
and the plains.
Ranikhet
Besides being a cantonment (the place was selected as a hill
station for British troops and accordingly the cantonment was
established in 1869), Ranikhet (Queen’s field) is a popular
tourist resort from where one gets an awe - inspiring view of
the majestic Himalaya. The Kumaon Regimental Centre Museum and
Memorial are the jewels of Ranikhet Cantonment, which is situated
amidst dense forests.
Kausani
Kausani is ideal for those who seek to escape from the din and
dust, hustle and bustle of big cities and wish to spend a quiet
holiday in the lap of nature. Indeed, Kausani is a veritable
heaven of beauty to which an excursion must be made on visiting
Kumaon. Pinnath (5 km), Bur Pinnath (5.5 km) and Bhatkot (12
km) are the highest points near Kausani.
